The Qinian Dian circular temple "The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests ", built in 1420, is located at the Temple of Heaven Park in Southern Beijing. The large park also contains a processional elevated route, a sacrificial mound and ceremonial buildings. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this park was off-limits to "common people", but is now visited by thousands daily. It was here that the Emperor in his role as intermediary between earth and heaven, would pray for good harvests each year. The circular temple is 38 meters high (125 feet) and the diameter of the three tiered marble podium upon which the temple sits is 90 meters (300 feet). Dragon and Phoenix images decorate the building. For more information, go to: www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/beijing/heaven
