These are the buildings at Zazu's. The one to the left is the Macaw free flight building. There the birds are in a heated well lit building with trees and toys, where they are allowed to fly freely. (Currently Zazu's is looking for someone who would volunteer to build a waterfall for the birds to bath in so it will be more like nature for them) The structure in the middle is one under construction. This building will contain special rooms for the birds that are too agressive to hang with the flock, so that they will have more free flight room. I believe that the lower half will be a free flight area for Greys, and Amazons - but I think its still up for grabs :), the building on the right is the special needs building. This is where birds that have special medical needs or have been abused by prior owners or are not Macaws live. I found this building to be my favorite. (But that is because as an African Grey owner - I do have a soft spot for the greys)
Here is about Zazu's written by them:
We provide a new world for birds, offering plenty of free flight opportunities, social interaction with other birds, and plenty of loving attention. We provide a permanent refuge for these magnificent birds.
Our mission is to simply provide a safe and interesting
environment for all birds who find their way to Zazu’s House.
At Zazu’s House we are a 501(c)3 charitable organization. We are not a breeding facility. Each bird is a unique individual - their personalities are as varied as their plumage. Our large, heated facility is both a sanctuary and a social club for our flock. We do not sell birds, nor do we purchase them.
We want to give each bird their own little paradise. No entertaining or performing on command. We offer the choice to live cage free, and the chance to fly.
Our passion is to allow them to be the unique and magnificent creatures that they are. To let them be themselves and explore in a safe environment.
Our mission is to make this their last home. No bird will be bought or sold. We believe Macaws are best with other macaws. We will work with any parrot owner to find and be the final home.
Zazu’s House is operated as a non-profit shelter to large parrots.
All workers are volunteers that love to be around birds.
We are always in need for new voluteers or for donations to help feed and care for the birds.
