The Shoes by The Gigapanographer Currently Known as "Kilgore661"

The "shoes" memorial is something that is on all the standard lists of things to see in Budapest, but it should come with a warning for tourists who blithely wander along to have a look at it. This a memorial to Jewish people who were assembled here for deportation by the Nazis. Some were summarily executed, their bodies being left to fall into the river. I have never seen a memorial sculpture like this. The pairs of shoes look like they have only just been left there by their owners giving the viewer an almost visceral connection with the people themselves. Chilling and very poingant.
