Hi Randy, I saw your talk last night at Siggraph and am excited to join the site -- thanks! I'm uploading stuff now, and actually have a similar shot of SF (from near the same point). Can I ask -- how do I mark the camera's position in google maps, as you've done here? Thanks, Ben

Thanks for the feedback and questions! I used a GigaPan with Canon S5 IS to take a total of 897 pictures (69 cols, 13 rows). Capture time was a little under an hour.

What equipment did you use? I have a Nikon D80 and use Hugin to stitch the images together. After that I use Photoshop to crop the panorama. I do this on a Core 2 Duo laptop with 2GB of RAM and a lot of patience :) But I believe a 3.65 gigapixel photo requires some different tools..

3.65 Gigapixels? Let's see, with no overlap and a 10 Megapixel camera, that would be 365 images stitched together. With overlap, it must be at least 400 images. Is that about right? How many rows and frames per row did you take, and how long did that take?

This is very very cool!! The detail is incredible and you can spend hours looking and realize youve only seen a small section. GOOD WORK RANDY!! keep it up.
