What looks at first sight like an ordinary city shot contains a horrible bit of street planning. To get to Widcombe from the bus station you have to walk along this busy road and then go through the dark, noisesome arch on the left. After that you have a choice of the scary underpass or crossing four lanes of traffic.
With an apporach like this it's not surprising a resident of Bristol was heard to remark "Oh we don't go to Widcombe - it's dangerous."
For the record, Widcombe is NOT DANGEROUS. It is a charming and mostly well-to-do area of Bath, Well worth a visit especially if you are into Victorian architecture.
