The Huckleberry rock lookout trail starts near the beginning of Milford Bay road just off highway 118 between Port Carling and Bracebridge. The trail zigzags up a short way over exposed pink granite to one of the best views of Lake Muskoka. From the vantage point it is possible to see from Bala to Port Carling. In fact the two white water towers visible on the horizon in this image indicate the location of those two towns.
In addition to great views, the rock is home to some hawks which spent the time it took to make the Gigapan soaring in the thermals while keeping an eye out for lunch.
This Gigapan was taken at the end of a very dry period in mid-summer and a lot of the trees that you can see on the far hills had prematurely dried out and turned brown posing a severe fire risk.About the image: This Gigapan consists of about 95 individual images. They were taken with a Canon 50D fitted with a Canon EF 400 F5.6 prime lens and processed via ACR and PTGui Pro.
