Bohdan Khmelnytsky was the Hetman of Zaporizka Sich, the military leader and the most well-known statesman of Ukraine. Khmelnytsky was also the leader of the revolt against szlachta (the Polish nobles), which has subsequently transformed into the national liberation movement of the Ukrainian people against the Republic of Rzeczpospolita (the modern-day Poland).
