120708 - Arctic Ecology - Churchill Manitoba - Twin Lakes Fen - Darren
8:42am, July 8th, 2012
Drove down Twin Lakes road for the first time, past a section of tree line, to the Twin Lakes Fen. Temperature was 19C, weather was very cloudy, light wind, and light rain. Gigapan accentuates one of the key characteristics of the ground- and precipitation-fed fen: tamarack trees grow to a medium height, while other woody plants are generally shrub-sized and stunted. Sedges also dominate the mossy hummocks that are surrounded by shallow fen pools containing the occasional Wood Frog (Lithobates sylvaticus).
