-cloudy, and overcast day
-high wind out over the mud flats
-toque-worthy cold out on the flats
-across most of the area we walked there were a lot of mussels in the sand, anchored to the rocks (via byssal threads) and submerged in the pools left by low tide
-most pools had marine amphipods, some quite large (>3 cm) swimming in them
-lots of finger-shaped seaweed (caution: very slippery to walk on, especially with rubber boots)
-found a massive piece of what I think was kelp; larger that some of the students were tall
