This gigapan was taken in Cranesville Swamp, roughly 5 miles outside of the town of Terra Alta, WV. The swamp is an interesting picture of the interaction between humans and nature. It was logged at the turn of the last century, very few trees were recruited after the cut leaving the bog open. Additionally there are small ponds, excavated by humans, throughout the bog. Additionally a large powerline cut passes through the bog leaving a 60 foot wide clearing across the area. Finally there was at one time a large population of introduced pitcher plants, that have been recently removed.
