To see my other views of this amazing piece of equipment search on SR-826/SR-836
In Miami, Florida, a very large interchange is being built at the intersection of SR836 and SR826. This interchange will include a left turn flyover in all four directions. This assembler, called the Smooth Operator (technically a Launching Gantry) is being used to assemble the flyovers. The Smooth Operator is nearly 500 feet long, was constructed in Italy and shipped to the US by barge. This unit provides for the assembly of the flyover bridges without the need for cranes to lift the sections into place or the resulting road blocks and traffic jams. It is said that the use of the Smooth Operator will cut three years off the construction time for this Interchange. It is a thing of beauty to see it in operation.
