Shows the Imperial Oil Strathcona Refinery and adjacent E-Construction yard along Baseline Road near Sherwood Park on the east side of Edmonton. The Suncor refinery is in the background on the right.
While setting up the panorama, I was approached by a security guard from Esso who informed me that taking photographs of the refinery was not allowed. However, I was on public land (beside the road) and he had no authority to make me stop. I also said that Imperial Oil was my client for the shoot, in addition to GigaPan Systems. That seemed to satisfy him.
There is a very large crane from Mammoet on site for a big lifting job, presumably one of the big towers or crackers. There was also a large flare burning from the stack near the AVgas terminal. The flame is about 50 feet tall.
