This Italianate village is the brainchild of architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who built on the site and also brought in architectural pieces to form an ecclectic whole. Noel Coward wrote "Blythe Spirit" while staying at Portmeirion. The village's odd look formed an important backdrop for the surreal spy drama "The Prisoner." Portmeirion is now owned by a charitable trust.
