Description

The city of Toluca, which gives name to the valley where it is located, is one of the most rapidly expanding cities in Mexico, engunfing the surrounding villages. Tlazala the village at the foothill from where this picture was taken, as the rest of the towns of the valley is slowly growing over former corn fields. The Chimaliapan marsh, the largest of the remaining marshes, which once covered a large portion of the valley, is home of endemic fish and amphibians and an important refuge for migratory waterfowl.
