In 1892, New York State, in its wisdom, established the governing body called the 'Adirondack Park Agency' (APA) to oversee and protect our nation's natural resources. The Adirondack Park is the largest protective landscape east of the Mississippi and larger than Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Everglades National Parks combined! The Adirondack Park is one of the oldest models of coexistence between human settlements and wilderness protection. Our Park has the largest intact temperate forest in the world. The High Peaks region became world renown for the treatment of tuberculosis; and for good reason ... the mountain air! Did you know that the Adirondacks was the birthplace of the 1st American vacation destination? Some coin the Adirondacks, the "Central Park for the World."
