These unconsolidated sediments crop out near the eastern corner of the Fort Ord Public Lands within sight of the Creekside Terrace trailhead. The clasts display a range of sorting, rounding, and layering. They probably represent detritus eroded from the paleo-Coast Ranges that was deposited in fluvial and fan environments during their transport to the Pacific.
This outcrop lies near the edge of the hills comprise the former Ft Ord Military Base. Turning 180 degrees from this spot would reveal a a similar outcrop: www.gigapan.org/gigapans/94872Landmarks visible in the Salinas Valley include downtown Salinas, Speckles, Fremont Peak, and the Salinas River.
