The Paleocene Carmelo conglomerate lies unconformably over the ~100 MA granodiorite of the Monterey Peninsula. A felsic diike intrudes the granodiorite, but does not intrude into the Carmelo conglomerate. Overlying both the granodiorite and the Carmelo conglomerate are marine terrace deposits, on which a soil has started to develop. This is a seacliff exposre in Pt Lobos State Natural Reserve.
