Tufa (limestone) formations in Mono Lake, California.
Receding water levels reveal the Tufa formations that are formed in the alkali water when groundwater enters the water column. As the water evaporates the limestone towers appear to grow from the lake bottom.
Osprey are nesting on the large Tufa in the middle.
