Dominating the landscape with its sawtooth ridge of giant flatirons is the San
Rafael Reef. The San Rafael Reef is the dramatic eastern boundary of the San
Rafael Swell, a large, kidney-shaped topographic feature that began as an uplift
of rock 40 to 60 million years ago. Erosion left the canyons and cliffs that
have been barriers to travel by man.This was taken at the Spotted Wolf Viewing area, on I-70 mm 147 in Utah. I was later than I would have liked getting there so the Sun was almost down.
