Sonesta Maho Hotel Beach & Sunset Bar located adjacent to the Princess Julianna International Airport on the Beautiful Caribbean Island of St. Maarten. This unique island is shared by two countries, the northern part, named Saint Martin is French and the southern portion is named Sint Maarten and is Dutch.
Princess Julianna Airport handles some very large aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A340. Because the runway is quite short these large aircraft must touch down at the very end of the runway. As a result, when these large airplanes land it appears that they are landing on the crowded little beach. Once the KLM B747 landed so close that its wheels tore down the barbed wire fence at the end of the runway.
