About these wetlands…
This constructed wetland system consists of four shallow marshes and a deep central lake, each component surrounded by earthen berms. Constructed in 1998, the entire site totals about 200 acres.
In addition to polishing reclaimed discharge water from the adjacent wreatment facility, these wetlands were designed to support abundant native wildlife and a diverse mix of natural vegetation.
These wetlands and their adjoining properties provide habitat for several threatened and endangered species, most notably Crested Caracara, which can be seen almost daily. In November 2002, the first verified Mangrove Swallow sighting in the continental US was recorded at this site. In April 2008, this site was accepted into the Great Florida Birding Trail.
This Gigapan was taken with a Nikon D800 camera and a Nikon 28-300mm lens set at 300mm. This gigapan consists of 186 images stitched into one large Gigapan using the Gigapan Stitch.EFX 2.1.0161 software.
