111130 - Costa Rica, Area de Conservacion de Guanacaste (ACG), Volcan Cacao, 1,200m

The volcanoes looked slightly more cloudy this morning on the drive in but no rain through the day - just a lot of wind (the canopy is moving all day quite a lot). Quad bikes up from QG with Harry R (8km). Hike up and traps out at 9:15am. There are Tapinoma here. The yellow dusky Pheidole are the most commonly encountered ants here. I encountered a mano a piedra (viper) under the barrel at 11 am. Surprising - it struck but missed. Certainly gaped it's jaws and was very unhappy. Photos.
