Description

Das Matterhorn (walliserdeutsch ds'Hore, italienisch Monte Cervino oder Cervino, französisch Mont Cervin oder Le Cervin) ist mit 4478 Metern Höhe einer der höchsten Berge der Alpen. Wegen seiner markanten Gestalt und seiner Besteigungsgeschichte ist das Matterhorn einer der bekanntesten Berge der Welt. Für die Schweiz ist es ein Wahrzeichen und die meistfotografierte Touristenattraktion.
Der Berg befindet sich in den Walliser Alpen zwischen Zermatt und Breuil-Cervinia. Ost-, Nord- und Westwand liegen auf schweizerischem, die Südwand auf italienischem Staatsgebiet.
