Description

Mount Katahdin is the highest point in Maine, USA and the highest elevation on the mountain, Baxter Peak, is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The first recorded route up the mountain was via a large rock slide which created a bare but treacherous path up the western side of the mountain. This rock slide is now the Abol Trail which my brother and I used to ascend and descend the mountain in late August 2008. The cloud cover was low all day, but once above it, the sky was blue. Below, the sun broke through only in patches, as seen here.
