I am wondering if there is a way to use an HD video camera in timelapse mode on the GigaPan Epic Pro. Weight and size wise the camera I would like to use fits in the specs but is there a way that the GigaPan Epic Pro can do a continuous pan and tilt within a set start and stop point over a period of a predetermined time frame?
Best,

If you are thinking of doing panning timelapse, it won’t really work as the epic pro only does 255 columns max (more here: http://gigapan.org/forums/1/topics/18).

If you were thinking of actually shooting a panorama with and hd video camera, you could probably hack something by setting the timelapse feature on the camera to an interval like 10 seconds, set the delay between shots on the gigapan to 10sec and enough offset between the starting time on each that the frame capture and camera movement happen one after the other. But 1080pHD is only 2mp per image so you’d need a lot of pictures to get a real gigapan.

If you are looking for a cheap way to do panning timelapse, a cheap egg timer with a camera mount glued to it is a pretty nice hack to get started (google it). For a little higher end, check out the very sweet open moco project. You can buy the pan/tilt arduino shield and kit for <$100 (http://dynamicperception.com/index.php?main_pag…. More info on the project here: http://openmoco.org/node/212. Search on youtube for Milapse, he developed the system and has a lot of great demos videos.
